The
representatives of WWB in Madrid visited the
associations present in the Marrakech
region, and were able to meet all the
partners during the Marrakech exhibition in
July 2006.
One of the
objectives of their visit was to select a
few associations to participate in their
project from the Chamber of Commerce in
Marrakech.
Thus, the
associations Benslou, Wafa, Tigmi and Talilt
were selected to participate in the training
and expose their products for sessions of 2
months in the artisanal heart of Marrakech.
Contact 2: Gill Favre of the Château de Dé
The project of Gill Favre in France is to
form a network of equitable commerce made
from equitable products. At the occasion of
the Saint-Etienne International Design
Biennial that took place November 22 –
December 3, 2006 in France, Gill Favre
worked with the associations Itqane, Talilt
et Touama for the products presented during
this event.
Contact 3: Ali Amor & Nadia Marmech from
Sunny Side
Owner of a store, Sunny Side, which
highlights Moroccan products from Casablanca
in central Maârif. They were very interested
by the work of the craftswomen during their
visit to the partners from Marrakech and
placed orders from the cooperative Tigmi in
Ait Ourir.
The store proposed
to reserve a shelf in the heart of its shop
to expose the products from the women and to
see thereafter which products are the most
solicited by its clientele.
The store Sunny
Side puts on events throughout the year in
its store and brings in a divers, regular
patronage.
Contact 4: Mme Duquet and a group of 10
people
1. Coopérative Femmes de Marrakech (Women’s
Cooperative of Marrakech)
The shop surprised a lot of visitors, first
by its small size and bad organization. It
is difficult to see which products are
exposed. Finally, it seemed to them that, in
spite of the beautiful creations, the models
and the sizes were not adjusted.
The questions
asked were to find out if the Cooperative
worked from patterns and if they had
mannequins.
The main remark of
the visitors was: “There is such a will to
succeed and such an economic conscience that
it would be a shame to not have the quality…
we have friends from the CCFD who could be
put in contact but on the condition that the
clothes fit well. This is the problem in the
fabrication of clothing that we don’t find
with household linen…”
2. Cooperative of Tigmi
This project seduced the group by its will
and its global nature (elimination of
illiteracy + child care center).
They fancied
buying because there was a pursuit of
aesthetic in the linens: “After the fact, I
don’t know if it will be very practical (the
tablecloth fabric is irregardless
delicate…); the cushions are good and the
little pieces are easy to buy… as for the
glasses, they are beautiful, but difficult
to transport and I don’t know if they are
dishwasher safe!!!!!”
3. Association Essalam
“In fact it is important that the actors
themselves talk of their work… A few pieces
were made from very beautiful fabric, not
expensive, and I have kept this impression
upon my return… Yet this association was
familial and less a bearer of social project
like we saw for the other 2, but the
purchases are not always very well
thought-out!!!! We had a trip particularly
euphoric in the group arriving at their
place and the general ambiance of a group
plays on the purchases.”
